Abandoned Stations On London's Underground

"There are about 40 abandoned or relocated stations on the Underground network along its entire 255 miles (408Km) of trackway - some subsurface and some above ground. Some have vanished without trace whereas others are almost intact, grimey time capsules of the era when they were closed."

Asia's Newest Sport - Yak Skiing

"The magazine's Asian edition says this "implausible extreme sport" involves going at rocket speed uphill attached by rope to a yak charging downhill. "

"If you forget yourself in the excitement and shake the bucket too soon, you'll be flattened by two hairy tons of behemoth," the magazine says. "

"Mr Dorje's advice is: "Never shake the bucket of nuts before you're tied to the yak rope."

Never have truer words been spoken. That's some sage advice my man.

Internet via 1996

"The internet in 1996 looks like it had been created in its entirety by a panel of 13-year-olds with Geocities accounts who had about half an hour to spare each night before bedtime."

Hmmm. Myspace.com ...I'm looking at you.

Mermaid Corpse?

The site doesn't say much about this. It mentions that it was found off the Atlantic Coast, possibly washed ashore by a storm.

Seems a little fishy to me.

Gumby Turns 50

" Gumby, the little green clay boy, is celebrating 50 years in show business -- in 1956 he made his first appearance on television, on "The Howdy Doody Show" -- and he's looking as young as ever. There's not a wrinkle on him, and if there were, you could smooth it out with your thumb. "

"Six friends spruced up in fake blood and tattered clothing were arrested in downtown Minneapolis on suspicion of toting "simulated weapons of mass destruction."

Police said the group were allegedly carrying bags with wires sticking out, making it look like a bomb, while meandering and dancing to music as part of a "zombie dance party" Saturday night."

Stolen R's

"A sign with the letter "R" missing from its message is shown outside a National Guard post in Greencastle, Ind., in this Tuesday, July 18, 2006 file photo. A consonant-loving thief had police and business owners in Greencastle baffled after dozens of letter Rs were stolen from signs. The weekend caper targeted gas stations, restaurants, repair shops and medical offices in the small city about 40 miles west of Indianapolis, as well as the National Guard post."

So who stole all the RRRR's? Perhaps pirates?

The Perfect Bacon Martini

"Lightly mist martini glass with vermouth, and rim the edge with bacon grease. In a cocktail shaker, mix 3oz vodka, one dash tobasco, and one dash olive juice. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass. Skim excess bacon grease from surface of cocktail. Garnish with one slice of bacon."

That would go great with the Bacon Cereal post a few weeks ago.

Android Clone

"Japanese roboticist Hiroshi Ishiguro clones himself, android-style. His incredibly lifelike mechanical double, "Geminoid HI-1," sometimes takes his place in meetings and classes. "

I can think of many opportunities where this might come in handy.

THE OFFICIAL ZOMBIE MARCH ON BOSTON II IS COMING! THIS SUMMER IS THE SUMMER OF THE UNDEAD.

"Once again, we will be meeting at South Station. This march will begin at 6:00pm on July 22nd. Rip your shirt, pore on the fake gore, and come join us for a night of wandering the streets of Boston and Cambridge. This spring's march in Somerville was a real scream, with "audience participation" (the police held back traffic for us, tourists wanted photos). The Brattle is even getting involved."
